چکیده

Intermediate energy Coulomb excitation at 100 MeV/nucleon was used to probe the low-lying level structure of both O and O in the region between 1 and 8 MeV. Discrete 1 states with energies of 5.35~10! and 6.85~5! MeV were observed in O. The strong direct excitation and subsequent g-ray decay of these states, along with B(El) predictions for O levels in this energy region, established their dipole character. The extracted B(E1)↑ values of 0.062(16)e fm and 0.035(9)e fm for the 5.35and 6.85-MeV states, respectively, are significantly larger than shell model calculations, though modification of the single-particle energies, in particular, the p-sd shell gap, improves the agreement. The summed B(E1)↑ value for these levels ~in Weisskopf units! is consistent with that for other nuclei that have been discussed recently in the literature as potential Pygmy dipole resonance hosts.

Low - lying dipole strength in 20

Self-consistent description of multipole strength: Systematic calculations

We use the quasiparticle random-phase approximation with a few Skyrme density functionals to calculate strength functions in the J π = 0+, 1−, and 2+ channels for even Ca, Ni, and Sn isotopes from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line. We show where and how low-lying strength begins to appear as N increases. We also exhibit partial energy-weighted sums of the transition strength as func...

Low-lying dipole response in the relativistic quasiparticle time blocking approximation and its influence on neutron capture cross sections

We have computed dipole strength distributions for nickel and tin isotopes within the Relativistic Quasiparticle Time Blocking approximation (RQTBA). These calculations provide a good description of data, including the neutron-rich tin isotopes 130,132Sn. The resulting dipole strengths have been implemented in HauserFeshbach calculations of astrophysical neutron capture rates relevant for r-pro...

Origin of low-lying enhanced E1 strength in rare-Earth nuclei.

The experimental E1 strength distribution below 4 MeV in rare-earth nuclei suggests a local breaking of isospin symmetry. In addition to the octupole states, additional J^{π}=1^{-} states with enhanced E1 strength have been observed in rare-earth nuclei by means of (γ,γ') experiments. By reproducing the experimental results, the spdf interacting boson model calculations provide further evidence...
